Transforming Darkness Into Light

The "miracle" of transforming darkness into light to those with no other hope is a reality. These are people with no health insurance and very little resources -- health care is a luxury they just do not have. We touch the lives of thousands each year through surgery, hearing aids and treatment of eye disease. The children are always memorable. However, 43-year-old Edward was legally blind with cataracts. His very dense cataracts were on both sides of his lens. For years, he could not work because of his vision. He had 20/400 in one eye and only hand motion in his other eye. We performed cataract surgery (a miracle happened). For the first time in years, he can now see 20/20 in one eye and 20/25 in his other eye. With tears of joy, he exclaimed his gratitude because now he could see. Now, he can go to work and be productive again.

Hellen Keller's challenge for Lions to become her "Knights of the Blind" inspired us and became the impetus for ALL Lions in their mission of vision and hearing restoration. Helen altered our perception of the disabled and remapped the boundaries for our senses. We have made many "miracles" this year and we will continue to make "miracles" each year because we are committed to this noble goal.

So, I ask you to join with us to put a stop to ALL forms of preventable blindness in our lifetime. We do so much now, but we can reach for the stars and make even more miracles happen for those waiting patiently for our help.

Thanking you for your interest in our work,
